HZ10 Climate Zone
Florida is classified as HZ10 — a hot, humid climate zone with intense UV exposure, frequent tropical storms, and year-round moisture. HardiePanel® is specifically engineered to thrive in these demanding conditions where wood and vinyl siding fail.
Tested and approved for high-velocity hurricane zones (HVHZ) including Miami-Dade County. Withstands extreme winds and impact.
Fiber cement construction resists moisture absorption, warping, and corrosion from coastal salt air exposure.
Will not attract termites or wood-destroying insects prevalent throughout Florida. Critical protection for your investment.
Resists the intense Florida sun and extreme heat that causes vinyl siding to warp, fade, and buckle over time.
Panel Dimensions
HardiePanel® Vertical Siding is available in three standard panel sizes to accommodate different wall heights and minimize horizontal seams for cleaner vertical lines.
Standard panel size ideal for most residential applications. Efficient coverage with minimal waste.
Extended height panel for taller walls and two-story applications. Reduces horizontal seams.
Maximum height panel for commercial and large-scale residential projects. Cleanest vertical lines.

Got Questions?
Everything you need to know about HardiePanel® Vertical Siding — from installation requirements and warranty coverage to HZ10 climate performance in Florida.
HardiePanel® Vertical Siding is installed vertically over a proper weather-resistive barrier (WRB) and structural sheathing. Panels are fastened directly to wall studs using hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel nails. Vertical joints are typically covered with battens or trim boards. All panel edges and penetrations must be properly sealed and flashed to maintain weather protection and warranty coverage.
Yes! Mixing HardiePanel® Vertical Siding with HardiePlank® Lap Siding is a popular design choice that creates stunning architectural contrast. Vertical panels are often used as accent walls, gable ends, or on specific architectural features while lap siding covers the main body of the home. Both products are HZ10-rated and share the same warranty coverage when properly installed.
James Hardie specifies that HardiePanel® must be fastened at all four edges and at intermediate supports (studs) spaced no more than 16" on center for vertical installation. Fasteners must be placed 3/8" from panel edges and driven flush — not countersunk. Using the correct fastener type, spacing, and installation technique is required to maintain warranty validity.
Battens are not structurally required but are commonly used for aesthetic purposes and to cover vertical panel joints. If battens are not used, vertical joints must be properly caulked with an approved sealant and backed with a joint flashing system. Many modern architectural designs feature exposed vertical seams with minimal trim for a clean, contemporary look.
Installation time varies based on project size, panel layout complexity, and whether HardiePanel is being mixed with other siding products. Most residential accent wall or gable installations take 2–5 days. Full-home vertical siding projects typically take 5–12 days. Tilaka Creative provides detailed project timelines during the free estimate process.
The James Hardie 30-year non-prorated limited warranty covers defects in the fiber cement substrate — including cracking, rotting, and delamination — under normal use and proper installation conditions. The warranty is non-prorated, meaning full replacement value is covered for the entire 30-year term. It is transferable one time to a subsequent homeowner.
The 15-year ColorPlus® Technology limited warranty covers the factory-applied finish against peeling, chipping, cracking, and excessive fade. This is a separate warranty from the substrate warranty and applies only to ColorPlus® pre-finished products — not field-painted HardiePanel. The finish warranty is also transferable one time.
Yes. James Hardie's warranty requires that all products be installed strictly in accordance with their published installation instructions. This includes proper fastener type and spacing, WRB installation, flashing details, and joint sealing. As a James Hardie Alliance Contractor, Tilaka Creative follows all manufacturer installation requirements to ensure your warranty remains fully intact.
Yes. HardiePanel® Vertical Siding is covered under the same 30-year substrate warranty and 15-year ColorPlus® finish warranty as HardiePlank® Lap Siding. Both products are HZ10-rated for Florida's climate and share the same warranty terms when properly installed by a certified contractor.
HZ10 is James Hardie's designation for hot, humid climate zones — which includes all of Florida. Products engineered for HZ10 are specifically formulated to resist the unique challenges of this environment: intense UV radiation, year-round humidity, tropical storms, salt air, and extreme heat. Using HZ10-rated products is required to maintain full warranty coverage in Florida.
Unlike wood siding that absorbs moisture and rots, or vinyl that warps and fades, HardiePanel® fiber cement is inorganic and does not absorb water. It is impervious to salt air corrosion, resists mold and mildew growth, and maintains its structural integrity in Florida's year-round high-humidity environment. It is the ideal siding material for coastal and inland Florida homes alike.
Yes. HardiePanel® Vertical Siding is engineered and tested to withstand hurricane-force winds. When properly installed per James Hardie's HZ10 installation guidelines, it can resist wind-driven rain and impact from wind-borne debris. HardiePanel is approved for use in high-velocity hurricane zones (HVHZ) including Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Standard primed HardiePanel® requires field painting and is susceptible to UV fade over time like any painted surface. However, HardiePanel® with ColorPlus® Technology features a factory-baked finish specifically engineered to resist UV fade in HZ10 climates. The ColorPlus® finish is backed by a 15-year warranty against excessive fading, making it the recommended choice for Florida homeowners.
Yes. Because HardiePanel® is made from fiber cement — not wood — it does not attract termites, carpenter ants, or other wood-destroying insects that are prevalent throughout Florida. This is a critical advantage over wood siding and engineered wood products in a state where termite activity is among the highest in the nation.
